The BC Lung Association’s fire fighter Stairclimb division is one of the largest of its kind in Canada. The event is successful, competitive, and enjoyable because participants and team captains come prepared.
Whether you are a newcomer or a seasoned veteran, please familiarize yourself with event registration, the team captain's role, as well as, equipment and bottle guidelines.
Firefighter Registration
Due to changes in funding for 2012, firefighter participants will be required to pay a registration fee of $25 and fundraise a minimum of $125 in order to participate.
Where does the money raised go?
Since firefighters are disproportionately affected by types of lung disease; we hope that you will challenge yourself not only physically as you train for the Stairclimb for Clean Air, but also push yourself further by raising funds for a vital cause. Funds raised from the Stairclimb will go towards essential lung disease education and research programs.
Although the minimum is only $125, teams and individual members are encouraged to fundraise even more. Excellent incentive prizes available for those that choose to participate in this way. Click here for the complete list.

Equipment
The race will be done in full firefighter gear: boots, pants, coat (with liners intact), helmet and gloves. Hoods will not be worn. Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) will be worn and used throughout the entire climb. Each Firefighter Stairclimb participant must wear gear that meets current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) structural firefighting standards.
What time do I climb on event day?
The Firefighters division will begin at 9:30 am on Sunday, February 26th, 2012.
Please arrive at least ½ an hour prior to your start time to allow for picking up your timing chip and race number and handing in any donations collected offline.
Bottles
No bottle change available. In past years, all of our competitors have been able to climb the 48 floors on one bottle. If you foresee any problems with this, please let us know.
