The idea behind Take the Stairs Day is to support lung health by encouraging people to take the stairs NOT the elevator on a given day, during a given time period.
For a registered Climb the Wall: The Stairclimb for Clean Air participant who works in an organization that values healthy living, it is a great way to get more donations, raise awareness about the event and the issues it represents, and to help motivate your colleagues to take the stairs!

How-it-Works InfoGraphic (JPEG) 1. Pick a day in early February to promote lung health by encouraging your co-workers or fellow students to take the stairs instead of the elevator. To take the elevator, your coworkers or fellow students will be asked to buy an elevator pass (aka make a small donation to the BC Lung Association). To make it easy for you, we have provided poster, email and elevator pass templates below. 2. Organize a team of ‘elevator pass sellers’ to collect a small BC Lung Association donation from anyone who wishes to take the elevator at a specific time period on the date you’ve chosen and promoted. Suggestion: Take the Stairs Day organizers can sell ‘elevator passes’ in advance using a donation jar. See Take the Stairs Day money jar template below. 3. Have fun! This is meant to be a positive and good-humoured activity. The goal isn’t to upset anyone, but to creatively meet your goal of fundraising in support of lung health. Suggestion: Don’t forget to tell passers-by that they too can take part in Climb the Wall: The Stairclimb for Clean Air! |

Email Template (PDF) After you’ve received permission from your boss or school, it’s important to let everyone know what Take the Stairs Day is and when it will occur. You want them to either buy an elevator pass in advance or come to work on your designated Take the Stairs Day prepared with money for a donation. |
| Elevator Pass Template (PDF) Here is a 8.5 x 11 template containing 9 passes each which you can print down and cut. Consider creating a few Take the Stairs Day money jars together with printed passes so your coworkers and friends can buy elevator passes in advance if they know they won’t want to take the stairs. |

| Money Jar Label Template (PDF) Using this label, you can recycle any jars you have available to easily create donation jars. These can be used to collect money for elevator passes and can be left in reception areas (if your boss or school doesn’t mind) for a day or two before or after the event to collect extra donations from supportive colleagues and students or from those who may have forgotten to bring change on the day. |
